May is Fraud Awareness Month

May is Public Assistance Fraud Awareness Month in Ohio, and Marion County Job & Family Services is spreading the word that “Fraud Costs All of Us.”

Public Assistance programs [such as Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Child Care subsidies, and Ohio Works First (OWF) cash assistance], are government programs for individuals and families that meet specified eligibility requirements. Different states and different programs have different qualifications which can be based on income, family size, and the number of children in a household.  In some instances, the system can be abused by people submitting fraudulent claims or not adhering to regulations.

Residents of Marion County can report suspected public assistance fraud by calling 740-387-8560, option 6;  by email at MarionCounty@JFS.Ohio.gov;  or online by visiting JFS.Ohio.gov/Fraud.
