Elder Abuse Awareness

Elder Abuse Awareness

Adults age 60 and older account for 20% of Ohio’s population, and this number is expected to grow to nearly 29% by 2030.

Abuse to adults age 60 and older has become more prevalent in our communities.  Elder abuse, neglect and exploitation occur among all socioeconomic classes, races and genders, and it is estimated that approximately one in five incidents of elder maltreatment is never reported.

In 2016, Marion County Adult Protective Services received 224 reports of alleged abuse, neglect and exploitation involving Marion County residents age 60 and older.

Marion County Job & Family Services in partnership with Ohio District 5, Area Agency on Aging, Inc., will continue to work with advocates and professionals to increase awareness and help fight elder abuse.

Marion County Job & Family Services in partnership with Ohio District 5, Area Agency on Aging, Inc., will work to ensure that our elders are respected as vital members of our community, who continue to grow, thrive and contribute.

Please join us in urging all citizens to recognize that our elders deserve to live with dignity in safe and caring communities every day.
